A Lawn Mowed by Cattle

IMG_5752

This is what they did to that mowed paddock.  They mowed it a bit more.  Uniformly cut to perfection.

Tonight, the herd is back to work cleaning up paddocks.  This paddock isn’t stockpile, but as you can see, it’s not perfect.  They aren’t picky.

Here’s the photo from yesterday for comparison.  Both taken within five minutes after the move.

In other news, this bad boy can climb hay bales.  Lucy took this photo while out on a walk.  He’s very pleased with himself.

Our Dog Likes Figs

IMG_5496

Fig season here.  Everyone loves figs.  Except me.  But it’s not about me.

IMG_5497

Lumi spends a couple of hours a day hunting ripe figs.  Tricky things those figs.  Hard to catch.

He really shouldn’t be eating too many figs.  It keeps him too regular.  Over regular.

But he loves him some figs.  What’s a brutha gonna do?  He’s a Golden.

L’exercice des Garçons

DSC_9369

Flying Retrievers

I’m learning more and more about the Golden Retriever.  If you can imagine a pie, a large slice is dedicated to sleeping and snoring.  There is a small sliver for eating, but they eat so quickly not much time is spent there.  The entire pie rests in a butter crust of “eating desire.”  When you’re not looking they will eat the pie.  There is a fair slice of cuddles and pats.  And the final slice is retrieving.  It’s like they were bred to retrieve.

Chorale is the most athletic.  She’s the one with the orange collar.  When the ball is tossed, she leaves the young boys in the dust.  She’s a grumpy bitch with amazing athletic ability.

I love to watch their face so dedicated to the thrown object.  They follow that object so closely, their bodies do crazy things to get that thing.

They fly.

And tug a bit with the wee one as he learns this whole retrieving thing.

Then they rest.  And smile.

Oh, The Puppy Charge

DSC_7764

The heartwarming puppy charge.  ” Jiggy!! Come on!!”  And he comes running, flapping his ears.  The ear flapping helps get you closer to food.

DSC_7755

what’s not to love about a puppy charge?

He stands still occasionally.

DSC_7750

Then, like a three-year-old human, he runs.  Just because he can.  Why walk?

The girls chilled with my sis and  a tractor tube.  Many an hour can be spent with a great day and a large tractor tube.

Exchanged some gossip.
